Fiordland Lodge's Monique Rutene wins National Competition

Monique Rutene from Fiordland Lodge on the outskirts of Te Anau has won the New Zealand Culinary Fare "Southern Hospitality HSI Modern Food and Beverage  Competition" at the National Culinary Fare held in Auckland on the 19th July. Monique, the only South Island finalist showed that she has what it takes to become a future industry star after being named New Zealand's top hospitality apprentice.

The fast-paced national competition was narrowed down to see five selected food and beverage finalists compete in a fiercely contested four hour competition including competing in a blind wine evaluation challenge. As New Zealand's top Food and Beverage apprentice, Monique receives a trip to the 2012 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, with $1,500 towards flights and accommodation. She scored particularly well in the blind wine-tasting section of the competition.

"The competitors have worked extremely hard to prepare for this event and are a great example of the talented, passionate young people that will go far in the hospitality industry", he says.
